In addition to the usual dinner meeting proceedings, the AWRA Washington Section will convene its annual meeting and conduct elections for the 2018 Board of Directors.
About Living Earth Institute
The Living Earth Institute (LEI) is a Seattle-based non-profit 501(3)(c) organization founded in 1999 to aid international communities in developing sustainable water resources. Our primary focus is the development of water supply and sanitation projects; however, through experience, we know that in order to make these projects sustainable, we must take a holistic approach. This means that we work with the community to implement income generation training, micro-lending programs, literacy classes, hygiene education, and other programs to meet community-defined needs
Speaker: Pratistha Kansakar is the Vice President for the Living Earth Institute. She has been involved with LEI since its inception in 1998. In her decade long involvement with LEI, she has contributed to LEI in varying capacity – as a student volunteer, as a project manager, and now as the Vice President. As part of her role, she designs impact study programs, facilitates outreach activities, and explores potential collaborations with other non-profits who do similar kind of work. Having lived in Seattle for almost a decade, she considers the pacific northwest as her second home. Pratistha recently completed her graduate program at University of Washington in Civil and Environmental Engineering. For her day job, she works as a Water Resources Engineer at Brown and Caldwell.

Friendly Water for the World’s mission is to expand global access to low-cost clean water technologies and information about health and sanitation through knowledge-sharing, training, applied research, community-building, peacemaking, and efforts at sustainability. We empower communities abroad to take care of their own clean water needs, even as we empower people here to make a real difference.
Our vision is of healthy, self-sustaining, empowered, peaceful communities both here and abroad, sharing our knowledge with each other, with life and hope restored through clean water.
Speaker: David H. Albert is co-founder and Board Chairman of Friendly Water for the World. In 2012, he retired from a career in public health, took one day off to put new tires on, and hasn’t missed a day since. David was also the founder of New Society Publishers (www.newsociety.com ) is the author of 11 books, used to write a regular column “My Word” for Life Learning Magazine, and is an itinerant storyteller. He has also founded three foundations, and has worked on and off in India for 40 years. A Quaker, he is energized by his grounded activism, and, with a life lived well, he doesn’t believe burn-out exists. He holds degrees from Williams College, Oxford University, and the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago, but will trade any of them for exotic musical instruments. He likes sushi and salads, but will eat sautéed spiders in Cambodia.

Free for students (Reserved for student members enrolled full-time, as outlined on the AWRA-WA website, waawra.org)

Registration as a guest is available if you are not a member of AWRA-WA.
Cancellation Policy: AWRA-WA will fully refund the registration fee if cancellation notice is received at least 5 days before the event.
