  State Conference Update

Please join us for the Annual State Conference on September 28, 2023. The theme for this year’s conference is The Four Corners of Washington – Water Resource Challenges and Adaptations. This will be our first in-person State Conference since 2019. Read more or register for the conference here


  Student Fellowship Winners

AWRA-WA is proud to announce the award of fellowships to four Washington state students working in water resources. Congratulations to 2023 AWRA-WA Student Fellowship recipients Edward Vlasenko (CWU), Shahzaib Khan (UW), Hailey Smith (WSU), and Bethany Kharrazi (CWU).   AWRA-WA & AWRA-CWU Dinner Meeting

In April 2023, 40 members from AWRA-WA and Central Washington University’s Student chapter met up in Ellensburg for their first in-person gathering in over three years. The event featured Arden Thomas from Kittitas County’s Water Resource Program, who shared the history of “Kittitas County’s Trailblazing Water Resource Program” to respond to domestic water needs through public-private water banking partnerships. Read more

  Automated Testing for Water Resources Models

Dr. Anurag Mishra details new developments in numeric modeling, including how DSI LLC’s Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code Plus (EFDC+) is being applied to develop a hydro-thermal model of Lake Washington and a water quality model for the Lower Duwamish Waterway. Read more


  Washington Drought Response

2023 began with promise for Washington’s rivers and streams. Reservoirs were full, soils were refilling with slowly melting snow, and Washington skiers were enjoying the slopes later in the season than usual. However, three months later, Washington was facing the reality of yet another extreme drought. What happened? And how would water resource professionals respond? Read more
