Wednesday, June 6, 11:30am - 1:00pm
McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside

Cleaning up a contaminated site usually requires the use of energy, water, and other resources, thereby creating an environmental footprint of its own. Green Remediation is the application of technologies and approaches that reduce a cleanup project’s environmental impact. The U.S. EPA has developed a methodology for evaluating a project’s environmental footprint – in order to reduce it, and to improve the project’s outcome under any regulatory program.  Kira Lynch of EPA Region 10’s Office of Science and Policy will discuss the agency’s Clean and Green policy as well as the recently published Methodology for Understanding and Reducing a Project's Environmental Footprint report, and how the formalization of green remediation methodology compliments EPA’s broader portfolio of remediation policies. Nick Garson of Boeing’s EHS Remediation Group will discuss Boeing’s sustainable remediation program and, through the use of two case studies, how Boeing was able to apply green remediation technology and practices in order to comply with EPA’s Clean and Green policy.
